Website for Teachers

It is very important for a teacher to have an online presence. In the digital age,
teachers staying relevant and having an online presence is vital for their success.
As an educator teacher's must be aware of their digital dossier. A digital dossier,
in a general sense, is your online identity. The more aware we are as educator's
of this the more effectively we can communicate to our student the course curriculum.
Providing all your course content online is a key step to staying relevant in a digital world.
Having a teacher website is a great tool for students to have access to curriculum content
anywhere there is an Internet connection.
There is a difference between having a teacher website and a L.M.S.
( Learning Management System.) Most L.M.S.'s require a user name and password and the
instructor or institution must allowed digital access into the L.M.S. system. The teacher website
is accessible without any user name and password free for anyone to access. This is a major
advantage over the standard type of L.M.S system because it allows for easier access for student and parents alike.

Copyright

There are several reasons why a company or individual might file for copyright protection with the United States Copyright Office. In my opinion, the  main reasons why creators of work copyright  items is to protect themselves from other individuals and companies from making a profit off of their creation.
Copyright allows for the creator to have legal rights of financial restitution if the law deems financial loss for the creator due to the copyright infringement.
In its most general sense, a fair use is any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited
and "trans-formative" purpose, such as to comment on, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work.
In my teaching copyright will be used with regard to the fair use act under  copyright statues.
My students will be made aware of the legal ramification of violation of these laws.

Banned Websites Day

It's instinctive when you tell someone not to due something it makes them want to due it even more.
This is the very same concept with banning websites from access for school websites. Students will intentionally try to bypass proxies and some students can even make it a personal challenge to do so. The school blocking of content can sometimes do more harm then good in this regard.

If students were to violate school policies it is my responsibility as a teacher to follow school policy regarding reprimanding the violators. In terms of content for my teaching career being blocked their is still I feel many available things still on line to use as a resource. If it was Web 2.0 tool that I absolutely could not live without I would speak to the principal and provide a very valid reason why I would like the 2.0 tool unblocked.

To raise awareness of the overly restrictive blocking of legitimate, educational websites and academically useful social networking tools in schools and school libraries, AASL has designated one day during Banned Books Week as Banned Websites Awareness Day. On Wednesday, Oct. 3, AASL is asking school librarians and other educators to promote an awareness of how overly restrictive filtering affects student learning.
